Foreign Trade Policy

Foreign trade in India includes all imports and exports to and from India. At the level of Central Government it is administered by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Within the frame-work of common objectives and trade practices under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), as agreed between the member countries of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, through their principal apex organisation Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), announces, from time to time, Foreign Trade Policy of the country, to achieve and sustain targeted growth in country’s contribution in global market.

With a view to continuously increasing our percentage share of global trade, certain benefits have been provided by the Government, to Trade and Industry. Amongst the major facilitation provided to boost country’s export of goods and services, the DGFT has announced various Export Promotion Schemes through which, exporting community can avail duty benefits, so as to make their overseas business/services competitive.

The WTO charter treats, refund of various duties & taxes paid on input to export product, as WTO compatable and not as export subsidy. The Foreign Trade Policy & Procedure, incorporating provisions relating to export & import of goods & services are implemented through the DGFT, for the common benefit of entire spectrum of Trade, Industry & Services.
